PRODUCER - BROADCASTER
DUQ is seeking a curious, energetic, team-oriented reporter to join our award-winning news department. Please note this is a two-year grant funded position. The successful applicant will focus the majority of his/her time reporting on behavioral health issues, including but not limited to, the quality, accessibility and affordability of care, and policy and legal issues regarding behavioral health. In addition, the successful applicant will do general assignment reporting and serve as a backup newscast anchor and local host to NPR news magazines. Under the supervision of the News Director and Assistant News Director, the behavioral health reporter will help develop new contacts plus story topics, research them, conduct interviews, write and produce stories for newscasts and long-form (NPR style) pieces for use in Morning Edition and All Things Considered. The behavioral health reporter will be responsible for repurposing the broadcasts stories for the web and for podcast, as well as coordinating and moderating occasional panel discussions, participating in station promotional and fundraising activities, and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Broadcast Journalism with a minimum of 2 to 3 years professional news reporting experience. Public radio journalism experience is helpful, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to the following: excellent interviewing, writing, and radio storytelling skills and be able to work successfully under tight deadlines; strong audio digital editing skills; pitch and produce stories to be used by National Public Radio; have a strong news judgment and interpersonal skills. Applicants must be willing to contribute actively to the University Mission and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University. For internal job candidates, completion of the University’s Foundations of Leadership training program is required and considered a highly desirable qualification for this position. The final candidate (internal or external) will be required to attend Foundations Training within the first 12 months of employment.

Volunteering at DUQ
DUQ sincerely appreciates the work and interest of volunteers throughout the year. Volunteers assist with on-air membership campaigns, station events and ongoing office work. Volunteers are regularly needed for the following types of projects:
- Answering phones and taking pledges during the on-air membership campaigns
- Supervising phone volunteers during on-air membership campaigns
- General office work throughout the year--such as stuffing envelopes, mailing thank you gifts, mailings, word processing, answering phones, etc.
- Help staff the DUQ booth at DUQ-sponsored events
